Mark Gorman is a singer/songwriter who has been playing guitar and making music for thirty years. He has written, recorded, and produced a plethora of musical works, including ten Broadway style full- length musicals, which he also directed before never less than sold out audiences. He has even conducted at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. In the mid- 80's, Mark wrote and recorded Trust In The Lord, a contemporary Christian album that he co-produced with Randy Adams (formerly with Dallas Holm & Praise). In 1998, Mark played guitar for another local solo act performing on Positively Texas, and opening for Traci Byrd. He also performed at the Mesquite Opry Building showcasing his talents with other local artists. In 1999, he sang for the Fort Worth Songwriter's Association. In May of 1999 and 2000, Mark was a finalist in the 11th and 12th Annual B. W. Stephenson Songwriters Competition held at Poor David's Pub in Dallas, and was noted in Buddy Magazine. Mark has recorded his first solo cd, Wind and Ages. The cd contains eleven of Mark's original songs, which are largely based in American western lore, as well as, some more personal works, including one Mark wrote as a surprise wedding song to his bride. The CD, Wind and Ages, was nominated for 1999 CD of the Year by Dallas Music Awards; Mark Gorman was nominated for 1999 Male Voclaist of the Year by Dallas Music Awards. For those fans who are used to seeing Mark play solo, he has assembled a band to support him in larger musical venues. Most recently, Mark and his band have opened for Radney Foster and Gary P. Nunn. In 1988, Mark Gorman began teaching high school choral music. He soon found that he missed performing live, so he spent a year working up three sets of cover music and began "gigging" in local restaurants, clubs, and coffee shops around the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. His repertoire grew to include songs by James Taylor, John Denver, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Garth Brooks, B. B. King, The Temptations, The Beatles, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Seeger, Jackson Browne, George Strait, The Rascals, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Lynard Skynard, and Chuck Berry to name just a few. In those nine years, Mark Gorman has developed a good local following wherever he appears. His laid back acoustic style and rich bass voice draw audiences in and holds their attention throughout the entire evening. It feels as though you are sitting in Mark Gorman's own living room whenever you hear him perform, regardless of the size of the venue.
Everyone in attendance feels like a personal friend of his as he moves fluidly through each set. Mark grew up in Dallas, Texas during the sixties. In 1969 he asked to begin guitar lessons. That is how the journey began. In 1970, he made his first public performance at his elementary school's talent show. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts/ Music Education with a concentration in Voice from Stephen F. Austin State University, he went on the road performing across the United States.

What a pleasant surprise! I had not heard of Mark for quite a while since I moved to the wilds of Tidewater Virginia, so when I discovered one of his albums on a trip home to Fort Worth recently I was doubly excited. I knew Mark in college at Stephen F. Austin and realized way back then that he would do a lot in music. As a fellow musician (albeit one who retired to follow that Other Calling) I could hear in Mark then what I hear in his work now - he IS his music, and that music still shines above most of the rest of the product out there today. Mark had, and clearly still has, a rare joy and passion for and in his music that will always set him apart - and take him far. Give his music a listen, and you will be given in return a refreshing musical journey...or maybe a rodeo. Either way, it is a great trip, and a lot of fun!

I read all this stuff people write about Chris Wall, Pat (what's his name), and Cross Canadian "wish we were really from Texas where we make all our money instead of Oklahoma) Ragweed and it makes me SICK!!! None of these "musicians" can hold a candle to the musicianship of Mark Gorman's little finger. Get real.

Saw Mark Gorman at the Texas Music Nation Celebration Preview at the White Elephant saloon. I couldn't take my eyes off of him. Great performer and has great moves on stage with that guitar.

Well, Mark has done it again. I got Wind & Ages at a songwriter's gig in Fort Worth and fell in love with the music. I recently got All Night Long and haven't taken it out of the CD player since. I like "Time To Ride" and I'm Goin' Home" the best, although the "Santa Anna's Tortillas" song has special meaning to me and my wife. If you don't know the story behind that song, be sure and ask Mark what it's about. ;-)

I think the Wind and Ages CD is my favorite because the songs are so deep. If you think about what they mean, you can really see them on different levels. I especially like the song, Wind and Ages. The guitar is incredible and the words make me think of my great uncle who was really a cowboy. I like All night Long too, but the 1st CD is my personal favorite.
